This coffee comes from Kangocho Factory, located near Karatina town in Nyeri County, Kenya. The factory sits at around 1,800 meters above sea level on the slopes of Mount Kenya, where mineral-rich soils and reliable rainfall create strong conditions for high-quality coffee.
Kangocho is part of the Gikanda Farmers’ Cooperative Society and works with a large group of smallholder farmers. Most farms are small, often with around 300 coffee trees, grown alongside fruit trees and other crops. This mixed farming approach supports soil health, biodiversity and long-term farm resilience.
Cherries are selectively handpicked and delivered to Kangocho Factory, where they are carefully sorted before processing. This coffee is fully washed. After pulping, the coffee is fermented overnight to break down remaining sugars, then washed, soaked and spread out on raised drying tables. Drying takes around 7 to 15 days, depending on weather conditions, with regular turning to ensure even results.
The factory also supports its members beyond processing, offering agronomic training, medical support and access to educational loans
This coffee is deep and expressive, with a rich purple-fruit character. Notes of blue grape and blackberry come through clearly, supported by floral tones of rooibos. A soft sweetness, reminiscent of biscuit and cookie dough, rounds out the profile, giving the coffee structure and balance.
