This Geisha comes from Rodrigo Sánchez and his family farm Monteblanco, located in Huila, Colombia at 1,730 meters. The layout is practical; coffee grows on the slopes below while the processing station sits at the ridge top. At this altitude, with bright sunlight and regular rainfall, the conditions are ideal for growing distinctive coffees like this Geisha.
Geisha first arrived at Monteblanco in 2015, and after years of fine-tuning, Rodrigo has found a way to highlight its most pronounced qualities. For this Gold Grand Cru Washed lot, the process is spot on: cherries are picked at peak ripeness, measured for Brix, then floated and fermented for 48 hours in GrainPro bags. After pulping, another 12 hours of fermentation follows before a slow 60-hour anaerobic stage. Finally, the coffee is washed and dried with careful attention to moisture.
We’ve been working with Rodrigo for three years now, but this is the first time we’ve managed to secure one of his Geishas. It’s a rare lot, and one we’ve been waiting for.
Expect a flavour profile that is rich and intense, yet delivers well-structured clarity. This coffee features a boozy acidity, complemented by a candy-like sweetness. We experienced sweet and delicate tropical flavours, reminiscent of lychee and peach.
