This coffee comes from Namisuni in the Mount Elgon region of eastern Uganda, where high elevations and fertile volcanic soils create excellent conditions for Arabica coffee. The coffee is produced through The Coffee Yard (TCY), a small company based in Mbale that was founded in 2018 by a group of women.
TCY works with a network of smallholder farmers selected for good farm management and responsible agricultural practices. Today, the company is led by two women and has a management board made up of 75% women, with a strong focus on empowerment and quality.

The coffee is grown between 1,800 and 2,100 metres and consists of SL14 and SL28. Ripe cherries are manually harvested by smallholder farmers and transported to TCY's processing station in Sironko.
The cherries are processed as a natural and dried on raised beds. The milder climate at the lower-altitude drying station allows for controlled drying, helping preserve sweetness and structure while allowing the fruit character to develop. Final processing takes place in Mbale, where every lot is cupped and analysed by a team led by Maria Kirya, head of quality control.
We discovered this coffee at an event hosted by our beloved green coffee importer, Belco. It immediately stood out for its beautiful balance of natural sweetness, pleasant funk, and body. A perfect coffee for espresso. Expect a deep and rich cup with strawberry, chocolate sweetness, and a creamy body.
