This coffee comes from Karimikui Factory in Kirinyaga, Kenya, part of the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society. Smallholder farmers in the region cultivate coffee on rich volcanic soils at high altitude near Mount Kenya, an area known for producing some of the country’s most expressive coffees.
The combination of elevation, fertile soil, and careful processing creates coffees with intense sweetness, vibrant acidity, and remarkable clarity.
Only the ripest cherries are handpicked and delivered to the factory for processing. After sorting, the coffee is depulped and fermented overnight to remove remaining mucilage before being fully washed with clean water.
Drying takes place slowly on raised African beds, where the parchment is turned and sorted regularly to ensure even drying and a clean, stable cup profile.
This lot consists primarily of SL28 and SL34, classic Kenyan varieties celebrated for their vibrant acidity, layered fruit character, and structured sweetness. At high altitude, these varieties develop refined citrus notes, deep berry character, and a dense, syrupy body.
This is an absolute banger that delivers everything you could want from a Kenyan coffee, complex vibrant acidity, intriguing lingering herbals, and tons of ripe dark berries.
