Rwanda - Mushonyi, Bourbon (Washed)
Rwanda - Mushonyi (Washed)
A juicy, sweet, fruit-forward cup which is perfectly balanced.
Producer & Region
This coffee hails from the Mushonyi washing station, situated just one kilometer from Lake Kivu. More than 1200 local growers in the hills of Mushonyi deliver their cherries here. These farmers are part of a project that enhances supply chain transparency and provides them with greater visibility. Through digital wallets, farmers can verify their identity and income.
On the environmental front, they have taken positive steps by identifying deforestation in their supply chain, utilizing solar panels at the washing station, and supplying cooperating producers with organic fertilizer.
Processing
Mushonyi washing station maintains stringent quality standards by subjecting the cherries to a rigorous sorting process. Initially, lower-quality cherries are removed through flotation. Subsequently, the remaining cherries undergo visual inspection to detect any defects. Finally, the cherries are sun-dried on raised beds, with regular turning to ensure uniform drying.
