In 2013 José Carranza Barboza brings together 35 small farmers under the name "JUMARP" (Asociacion de Productores Cafetaleros Juan Marco El Palto). The government invests in new drying houses, depulpers, fermentation tanks and high end varieties.
All the coffees are organic and Fairtrade.
The Utcubamba region is located is het Amazonas in the north of the Andes. This region has a unique ecosystem which is characterized by moist dense forests. Most of the farms are situated on steep hills between 1000 and 1800m. The coffee mostly grow in the shadow and harvesting is done by hand. The target of JUMARP is a overall quality score of 85-86 point before 2021.
