This coffee is grown in the Utcubamba province in Peru. This province is located in the Amazonas region, which has a unique ecosystem and is characterized by moist, dense forests. Most of the farms are situated on steep hills. The coffee mainly grows in the shadow and harvesting is done by hand.
In 2003 José Carranza Barboza and 35 other smallholder farmers founded The Asociación de Productores Cafetaleros Juan Marco “El Palto” (JUMARP). The group currently consist of 188 members and they all produce certified organic and Fairtrade coffee. The premiums they received from these certifications the invest in a number of community projects. Besides the group has set up a quality improvement program to raise general overall cup scores to 85-86 by 2021.
This organic certified coffee is rich and full bodied. Expect milk chocolate and caramel flavours with a nice orange-like finish. One of our favorite daily espressos and part of our assortment for years. We are looking forward to continuing to support the El Palto group.
