The selection of a fresh coffee from Kenya is always very exciting. This year there were 2
truly outstanding coffees on the cupping table. We choose this special coffee from the
Thimu factory because of the unique flavour profile! You can expect a super sweet and
berry-like coffee with an interesting finish of ripe plum.
Thimu factory is a washing station from the larger Baragwi Cooperative in Kirinyaga. The
farmers under the Baragwi Cooperative in Kirinyaga are located on the slopes of Mount
Kenya. This area is known for coffees with intense and complex, cup profiles. Baragwi
helps farmers with weeding, pruning, spraying, the application of fertiliser and other tech-
All the participating smallholders sort out the unripe cherries by hand and deliver their
best quality to the Thimu factory. Then the coffee is traditionally processed. It is pulped,
dry fermented, washed and sundried in 12 to 20 days on African dry-beds.
